Horse Description:

Bourbon was found running loose in Jackson County. She spent many weeks at the animal shelter there and no one came looking for her. No one knows why she was left to fend for herself.

You may look at Bourbon and wonder why she is in need of rescue. She looks healthy and for the most part she is (she could stand to gain some weight and her hooves are a disaster).

But mentally and emotionally she is in serious need of healing.

Bourbon is scared and skeptical. We don't know what has happened to her along the way to make her this way. Humans have also failed her by not training her. That is the case with SO MANY of the horses that end up with us. People don't take enough time or responsibility to prepare their horses with even the basics of how to behave, leaving them vulnerable and at serious risk without groups like ours to help.

Right now Bourbon is a serious case. In some ways she is sweet and loving. In other ways she is quite bitter. It seems to be a mix of never learning boundaries and a deep obvious fear of people.
